Leaving Larkbeare, Visiting Lanhydrock and Arriving in Port Issac

We were up early, had breakfast and finished packing the car.  We did much better getting more of the luggage in the trunk than before but still had the back seat full.  We went to say goodbye to Julia and Charlie and let them know we were leaving.  They are such a nice couple, I wish we knew someone who was coming who could stay there.

We actually were on the road by 9:30 and since Port Issac is supposedly only an hour and a half away, we thought we would stop at the National Trust Property of Lanhydrock on the way.  We can't check in to the house in Port Issac until 4 so we needed to kill some time.  It was a bright sunny day and was getting continually warmer as we drove.  We saw a sign for the Jamaica Inn which Kay knew about so we stopped there.  It was a series of books about a real life smuggler in Cornwall.  Anyway, they had a great Farm Shop and a huge Gift Shop and a Bar and Hotel there.  We spent some time and walked around for awhile.  I think we both bought something too.

Then we saw the highest point in Cornwall known as "Brown Willie" which was on one side of the road and on the other side there was "Brown Gelly" which was a brown hill with prehistoric rocks from a prehistoric settlement on Bodmin Moor...ok then, if they say so.

After leaving there we arrive at Lanhydrock.  This is known to be the largest manor house in Cornwall.  The property is huge and the walk from the car park to the house alone was at least a half mile and Kay thinks it could have even been more.  You couldn't see the house even from the ticket entrance.  It is a beautiful house and property and we spent hours walking through it then having lunch and tea.  By now it was 3 PM and we were already tired from our days activities.

This one is for you Debbie!

We stopped in the city of Wadebridge at a Tesco to get a few supplies then headed on to Port Issac.  The roads in Cornwall are said to be the most narrow in all of the UK and we/Kay really since she is the driver had no problem until we got on Rosacarrock Hill which is where our house is.  The corner was a tight squeeze and coming up the hill and into the parking space was a challenge but she did it!  It was fun to be in a place you have seen on TV for so long.  We unloaded the car, took some photos, had dinner and tried to figure out how things worked in this house.  I will describe my observations about it tomorrow....you will find Kay's to be vastly different I'm sure.  We are Doc Martin's next door neighbors so it is all about location, location, location.  The house we are in is at least 300 years old...enough said about that for now.

We got here so well done us...and as they say in Cornwall...proper job!
