The trucks bean arriving on the Platt by 7:30 AM but Kay and I were awake as the wind was blowing at what sounded like gale force most of the night. The windows in this place don't really fit properly and the windows are single pane so the curtains were moving all night.
We showered and dressed and went to the Chapel Café down the hill for breakfast the headed up the first hill to check out what was happening. This is on a very steep hill they are filming mostly indoor scenes so there isn't much to be seen. The only two people here are Selina Cadell who plays Mrs. Tishell the Chemist (Pharmacist) and Jessica Ransom who plays Morwenna Doc Martin's receptionist. They finished up here pretty early and they were already set up at the second house which is known as "Aunt Ruth's house" who is played by Dame Eileen Atkins. Joe Absolom is there and later Ian McNiece was filming but sad to report no Martin Clunes. This was the last day of filming in the village until next week when they will be back next door...bummer.
Today we took a ride trying to figure out where they were filming outside of the village. We heard they would be at a church nearby so we set out to see what we could find. we went down the roads less traveled and found a beautiful hotel with a gorgeous view. Then we found a view that actually was the hill behind our house. Now we were able to see where the cows go when they go home. While we were sitting there taking photos, one of the D-Drive Dash vans went by. These are the vans that move the equipment for the filming so we followed it! He took us right to the farm that is where they do all the inside filming and where the sets and offices are! Amazing because we would have never found it on our own. Anyway, we decide to move on back to the road before we get arrested and went to the village next to us called Port Quinn. Smaller than here which is really saying something but beautiful views.

| We were so proud of ourselves! Still saw nothing but we did see a car with Eileen Atkins in it when we were leaving. |
We went to a Farm Shop up on the main road for lunch and bought some gifts. They had some cute stuff and a good lunch too. From there we went to Tintagel. We wanted to see the castle that had some relationship to King Arthur. We found out later that the Cornish have made up a bunch of things about the history of King Arthur and not only is there doubt he was ever here at this castle, there is doubt he ever existed! The castle sits way up on a cliff and really has little of it standing anymore but we took the Land Rover service down and back. We thought how cool they would deliver you and save the effort....not! Besides the half mile in, that is really when the effort begins....with steps to the top! Kay got up there first and I couldn't decide if I would do it but did in the end although it took me some time. When we finished we realized the parking meter was about to expire so we need to get back to the car fast.
After we got back home we decided to walk to the Platt and look for sea glass I have been gathering for Lindsay and Paige. When we rounded the corner we saw Ian McNiece sitting in the Slipway Café talking with some people. He was very chatty and said he has really enjoyed the posts on Facebook I have been making on his page about the things we have done. We had some snacks and drinks at The Mote then came home. Both of us were tired and went to bed early.
Again...well done us and proper job!
Whew - quite a hike - I know I couldn't do it. Well done you!
ReplyDeleteThat is an impressive climb!
ReplyDeleteI was impressed myself that I did it..even Shrekie congratulated me when I got there! It took me forever and it was really windy up there. Shrekie was amazing with her climbs and walks after her therapy. She came a long way!
