Monday was filming at the Doc's surgery next door. Things began happening very early..by 7:30 AM the place was covered in people and equipment. It was very cold and crisp but a beautiful sunny morning. It wasn't long before I spotted Martin Clunes (the Doc) Caroline Catz (Louisa) and another actor walking up the hill in front of us to begin filming. It was fun watching the whole thing transpire. Caroline was on our side of the bushes so we saw what she was doing more than the Doc himself until we changed positions and moved up the hill. We never got to meet him or Caroline that day because it was absolutely over run with people trying to get close enough to see that had dogs. Kay and I said we needed to rent one! They had packed up and left by just after lunch and Kay and I needed to walk to the carpark up the hill since they had moved our car to set up their equipment. We walked to Port Gaverne along the the cliff footpath. It was so beautiful and the views so different from ours. Then we got the car and went for a ride to a couple nearby villages. We had to stop at the store coming back and then make the turn and come up the hill to park here. A challenge for most was not a challenge for Kay.

Yesterday, it was a beautiful day and no filming going on so we went for a walk down to the plat which is the main area of the town where the fisherman come in and there are bars and restaurants. The tide variances here are amazing so when the tide is out, it recedes all the way to the break wall. We walked around town first and did some shopping then walked out on the sand looking for shells or glass. No shells at all and although there were lots of rocks, we didn't find any glass...I'll keep looking Lindsay! We did however, find John Marquez who plays PC Penhale in the show. He was such a nice guy and posed for photos and chatted with everyone including us! We ran into another girl we had met the day before and went to have lunch at The Mote and wound up staying there having margaritas and eventually dinner before going to see where Susan was staying. It was a really fun day. Then Susan came back with us and we went next door to visit with the lady and her daughter who are staying there.

You can see the water line on the sea wall and that is a teen girl below
so that gives you an idea of how tall the wall is!

That brings us to this morning. They were filming again down the hill at the what was the fudge shop has now been transformed into the Port Wenn Chemist where Mrs. Tishell who is the pharmacist has been wearing a neck brace for 8 seasons now. She actually is a very funny lady and plays her part very well. We later took a photo with her. We were watching the filming from across the street when I missed a step and fell face first! I was helped up by some nice people around me and then John Marquez who was filming at the time ran over as well. He was so sweet and gave me a kiss! The show had the medic come and check me out. I have a bruised nose and skinned up knee but was mostly just embarrassed at the scene. As a result however, Kay, Susan and I got to be "background people" in the filming. It was quite fun in the beginning but soon wore off when we were doing the same things over and over for three hours and had no place to sit. We did get to see almost everyone in the show except Martin and Caroline who were not in the filming today. We froze most of the hours we were out there because we had to be without coats as they said "perpetuating the idea that it is always warm and sunny in Port Wenn". As a result, we are now finally home and trying to warm up, and me nursing a sore knee. I'm sure I will be feeling this day all over my body tomorrow. We are tired and will be heading to bed early. I didn't take any pictures today but Kay did so maybe I can add some later.

Well done us!
OMG, I hope you are ok.... what some people will do to get on tv. Haha lots of memories that's for sure. Rest well, lots more to come.
ReplyDeleteI was going to say you wanted to be tending by 'Doc'. But I've never seen the show so I imagine you don't fit into the storyline. Hope you are feeling okay today and tomorrow (always seems to be day 2 I'm achy). It's great you get to see some filming, even if it gets a bit tedious.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you aren't hurt any worse, but hey, you'll be on TV over it! That is great that you have been able to be so close to it all!
ReplyDeleteSunny and getting hot here, the girls trimmed up all of your bulbs last week - well done us!👍
