Excitement is Brewing...Along With The Tea!

Kay and I are both busy now weighing luggage then taking it all apart and trying again in order to come in under our one checked baggage piece of 50 lbs.  When packing for a month long trip, it is difficult to take everything you think you will need for cold and rainy weather and keep it under 50 lbs.....but we will do it!  I am currently working on our list for Carpool Karaoke...I wonder if James Carden would be interested in singing with us?

Our first two weeks as Kay said will be in Devon exploring the Jurassic Coast, some Jane Austen and Agatha Christie sites both real and filming areas.  We have been busy planning out our day trips to the various areas of South Dorset and Devon before we will move on to our last two weeks in Port Issac on the Cornwall west coast.  As the picture on the Clunatics homepage shows, we have rented the 500 year old cottage called The White House which is next to one of the main filming areas (Doc Martin's Surgery) in the PBS series Doc Martin.  This quirky series has captured our attention and the regular characters are part of the fun.  They will be filming season 8 while we are there and we hope to see some of that as well as meet some of the cast.

Aunt Ruth

Morwenna the Receptionist

PC Penhale and his Ex Mags

Louisa, Doc Martin and James Henry

When not watching the filming, we are going to try to visit as much of Cornwall as possible.  We have seen some of this from another PBS drama Poldark.  We want to visit St. Michael's Mount which is an island off the Lizard Peninsula.  You can walk there from the mainland when the tide is out.  When the tide comes in however, it is so deep you have to take a boat.  The trick is not to get caught at the castle when the tide comes back in!  Much of Cornwall and the United Kingdom for that matter is as it has been for hundreds of years.  While the major cities have the same conveniences and shopping as we have at home, once away from those areas you seem to travel into another era.  This is part of our interest....seeing things as they were and enjoying the beauty of the gorgeous scenery. I am really looking forward to seeing what we get into this trip!
